Instructions chips bag:
Requirements:
- Good quality printer
- Thin/light glossy photo paper
- Clearcoat (optional)
Print setting:
- PaperType: Glossy photo paper
- Quality: as high as it can go
- Borderless: yes
Assembly:
Print the chips bag and let it dry, if the ink doesn't appear to dry you can use some clear coat to seal everything.
To assemble the chips bag fold the bag in thirds, leave the side with the ingredients slightly longer so it can overlap the other end.
Make sure not to create too sharp of a crease.
You can glue the ends together with either hot-glue or strong dual sided tape.
As a final step use a paper crimping tool (can be 3D printed) to create that nice crinkled effect as if it was heat sealed.
Finally and this is optional, you can use a pair of crinkle scissors to add that signature cut at both ends.
Enjoy!
Instructions dummy chips:
Also included in this bundle is a .zip file with all the required Gerber files to produce your very own dummy ram chips.
This can be a cost effective way to get a large volume of realistic looking ram sticks for cheap.
I chose JLCPCB as my manufacturer of choice but others should suffice as well.
When ordering keep the following things in mind:
- Choose a leadfree option
- The design is not a functional RAM module, your manufacturer will ask you to confirm.
- Let your manufacturer panelize them, I did 5x2 which will end up with 50 modules at jlcpcb.
Choosing leadfree is important since these will most likely be handled by you or others.
So as to avoid lead poisoning.
Also your manufacturer will ask you if you're sure about production since these are dummies and the traces don't lead anywhere.
Panelizing is a great way to get many chips for a much smaller price.
Also included are 3D printable DRAM modules + labels that you can print and glue onto the PCB's to add that extra bit of realism. (optional)
Disclaimer! Do not actually eat these chips, Do not attempt to use these as actual electronics.
